Jean Claude van Damme in a real competition? This is supposedly the World kickboxing and Karate Championship in 1979, caught on tape in 1979.
It is definitely Jean Claude, but I’m thinking it is less important than a “World Championship.” Looks like a gym with some mats and not very much in the way of audience.
This is a point fighting match. Modern MMA fighters would destroy someone like this. Not that the point fighting style cannot be adapted to modern MMA fighting, Steve Wonder Boy Thompson did it quite handily and is still one of the best fighters in the world.
But I’m thinking a young Jean Claude van Damme would not last long in an MMA fight without a heck of a lot of additional training.
