This could be one of the stories of the century.

Scientists have finally reached the stage where fusion is generating more power than it consumes. They have been trying over 70 years, since 1951.

For this to work, the materials have to be heated to 10 million degrees, several times hotter than the sun. The process is enormously complicated, not something your average terrorist rogue nation could steal.

But it still may be many years before this makes its way to commercial use (if ever). The complexity makes it expensive and difficult to make stable.
