These experts in the evolution of technology are saying that Star Trek Next Generation’s concept of the holodeck is not correct.
They believe a holodeck is coming but just not the same way.
The Star Trek version postulates light rendering solid objects, known as “hard light.”
But Lenovo is saying that the normal evolution of such technology would be simulations and utility first and entertainment second. So likely, all of the control panels on the ship would be “hard light” first, and those panels would be adaptable to the person and situation.
Makes sense.
Next, why would you need to create Data a robot android, when you can do the same thing with hard light that is indistinguishable from a real and solid human?
It is a lot to think about.
