Company Lonestar wants to put a datacenter in the lava tubes on the moon. This is for just in case the world doesn’t survive. They want to safeguard all of the Earth’s knowledge.
They have closed a seed round for $5 million. They will be shooting for a small, proof of concept installation.
They will work with a NASA program, and plan to send a prototype by the end of 2022. The next shot, will send a data block of about 16 terrabytes, and about the size of a book, for more extensive testing. They want to be at 50 petabytes by 2026.
Doesn’t say anything about power, but it could be an issue. In fact it may require more payload than the data equipment.
