In the heart of Buffalo, Erin Sheffield, 39, and her husband Dave, 35, discovered an unexpected love story – in a dumpster. Back in 2009, Erin, a bike shop worker, and Dave, a mechanical engineering student at the University of Buffalo, met amidst discarded textbooks and unexpected treasures.
Their unconventional love blossomed after Erin initiated a conversation while dumpster diving. “We met in a dumpster. I saw him, popped my head over, and asked what he was doing. He jumped out, we cleaned up, and spent the day dumpster diving,” Erin explained.
What started as a quirky hobby turned into a profitable side hustle, with the couple making thousands selling found items, including baby items for their upcoming arrival in April.
Now, as they prepare to launch their new venture, “Lost Goods,” focusing on upcycling furniture, Erin and Dave prove that love can truly be found in the most unexpected places – even in the garbage. It’s a dumpster-diving rollercoaster that goes beyond romance, blending humor, heartwarming moments, and the lucrative side of trash-to-treasure.
