In the remote village of Umoja, men are about as welcome as a snake in a picnic basket. Founded by the resilient Rebecca Lolosoli, Umoja serves as a sanctuary for women escaping the patriarchal grip of the Samburu people in Kenya. From fending off British soldiers to setting up their own village, these women are now thriving, making jewelry, running a school, and dealing with jealous men.
