Some friends are involved in electronics repair, and are quite upset that some manufacturers (notably Apple, but others as well), have bee refusing to provide parts and repair supplies for their phones. They can only be repaired by factory owned facilities, or refuse to repair older equipment, leaving no recourse for owners.

This has been a huge controversy, quite heated in certain venues.

Dell appears to be taking the opposite approach.

They have developed a computer that can be repaired by the user! It is excellent (may be the next one I buy…).
