War is hell. prisoners of war during World War II in Japan were tortured, killed, starved and were the victims of cannibalism. Near the end of the war, the Japanese didn’t have the resources to feed their prisoners. Then the Japanese didn’t have the resources to feed themselves and some soldiers were victims of cannibalism.
This was a different time, these are not the Japanese of today. Nor are today’s Germans the Germans of 1945.
But this is tough to even imagine, going through an experience that left you this skinny and malnourished. And yet it seems that the soldiers’ spirits were not broken.
