If you ever watched movies about giant robots fighting and thought, “That would never happen in real life,” Detroit would like a word. Inside a church auditorium, performers climb into towering mech suits and blast explosive projectiles at each other in a spectacle called Robowar. It’s part sci-fi fantasy, part live sporting event, and part neighborhood robotics showcase. Somewhere between comic books, professional wrestling, and a tech expo, audiences get to watch nine-foot “robots” settle their differences the old-fashioned way—by launching things at each other at 20 rounds per second.
