In the serene outskirts of Merced, California, a peculiar ‘abbey’ flourishes where unconventional nuns, Sister Kate and Sister Darcy, are cultivating more than just sisterhood – they’re growing weed! Decked out in denim skirts and habits, they’ve embarked on a spiritual mission to heal ailments using the power of marijuana. Move over traditional remedies, these sisters are all about tinctures, salves, and a little divine intervention.
Dubbed the “Sisters of the Valley,” their principles blend new age spirituality, feminism, and, of course, savvy business acumen. Their daily rituals involve timing harvests to lunar cycles, cooking with prayerful intent, and starting the day with ‘Bible Time,’ which is surprisingly more about emails and social media than holy scriptures.
Originating from a protest against the U.S. Congress classifying pizza as a vegetable, Sister Kate donned the habit and became ‘Sister Occupy.’ After a chance meeting with Sister Darcy, the order grew. Now, their spiritual sisterhood is looking to expand, albeit facing challenges from the proposed marijuana cultivation ban.
Despite setbacks like Etsy shutting down their store, these nuns are resilient. With a GoFundMe campaign, they’re determined to keep the spirit (and sales) alive. Click here to support the Sisters’ cause and discover the highs and lows of their unconventional journey!
