Marathons are already a special kind of torture. Running 26 miles usually involves sore legs, questionable life choices, and a lot of sweat. But a group of runners in Sweden decided the experience just wasn’t extreme enough, so they moved the entire race more than 3,000 feet underground inside a mine. Armed with headlamps and plenty of determination, athletes from around the world jogged through hot, dusty tunnels to set a new world record for the deepest marathon ever held. Because apparently running on normal roads is just too easy when you could do it in a cave.
