One of the tenants of security is that secrecy helps. But this article goes the opposite direction.

Perhaps an “open source” computer security solution could help. Open source means that everyone can see what you are doing. If you have the cooperation of the very smart programming community, you can analyze the crap out of it, find all of the potential holes and fix them.

It goes against the grain a bit. And of course people will install it improperly and create new holes. The best security is in layers.
