Believe it or not, this was a bomber designed and prototyped in the 1950’s and tested until 1966. If could travel at Mach 3 (over 2000 miles per hour.
It was never put into production because at low altitudes it flew about the same speed as the B-52, and there was a question at higher altitudes because the first surface-to-air missiles were being deployed and nobody knew if they would be vulnerable.
Only two were built. the second one was destroyed in a mid-air collision in 1966.
It could not be challenged by any aircraft of the day. It was just too expensive to deploy in those early days.
