I’m not exactly a wine connoisseur, so this is pretty amazing to me. Apparently you open a bottle this way to prevent the cork from crumbling into the wine and spoiling it (never heard of a strainer??).
Most people I know would never do this because they want to save the bottle and refill it with crappy wine to impress their friends (yes, I have ACTUALLY seen people do this).
