Mata Hari, the “Javanese princess” was an exotic dancer in the 1910s. Her real name was Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod, a Dutch citizen.
At one point she offered to sell French secrets to the Germans, some say she never provided anything of value. She was convicted of collaborating with the Germans during Word War I, “accused of spying for Germany, and consequently causing the deaths of at least 50,000 soldiers.”
She was executed on 15 Ocotober 1917 at age 41.
