This has been a well known phenomenon, in fact the study below starts with the following:

“Such is the nature of men, that howsoever they may acknowledge many others to be more witty, or more eloquent, or more learned; yet they hardly believe there be many so wise as themselves.”—Thomas Hobbes, English philosopher

And the studies show that it is true, that men have a cognitive bias in this respect, believing they are more intelligence than they actually are. Women appear to have a “humility” effect in estimating themselves especially when evaluating themselves in a male dominated activity.

I guess I am luckier than the rest of you poor slobs. I am CLEARLY more intelligent than I think I am, and always surprise myself.
